Here's the thing a lot of tradies don't realise: nobody assessing your skills cares whether you found a job through a Facebook ad or a mate down the pub. How the work came to you has nothing to do with whether you can frame a wall, hang a door, or cut in a clean edge.

The whole point of getting qualified for the skills you already have is to look at the actual work you've done and match it against what a Certificate III requires. The nice part about word-of-mouth work is that your customers already rate you — that's why they kept sending people your way. Those same people can often back you up.

A short statement from a homeowner or builder confirming you did the deck, the fit-out or the repaint is real, credible evidence. It shows the work was done, done properly, and done by you. If you've got long-standing customers or a builder who kept calling you back, they're worth a quick phone call.
