Here's the honest truth: being handy on the tools and being a strong writer are two completely different skills — and getting qualified for the experience you already have doesn't depend on you writing an essay. Being good with your hands is the part that counts

The whole point of turning your experience into a qualification is that you've already done the work. If you've been framing houses or painting and decorating for years, that hands-on skill is exactly what the assessment is looking for. Nobody's asking you to sit an exam or prove you can write a report. They want proof you can do the job properly — and you already can.

So the real question isn't "am I good at paperwork?" It's "can I show what I've done on the tools?" And most of that evidence is stuff you already have kicking around.

What "evidence" really means (it's not an essay)

When people hear "evidence," they picture a big stack of documents. In reality, a lot of it is the everyday proof of your work — things you don't have to write at all:

• Photos and videos of jobs you've done
• References from bosses, supervisors or clients
• Old payslips, invoices or job records
• Your white card, licences and any tickets you already hold
• A short chat with an assessor about how you do the work
