If you've spent years doing renovations, repairs, small extensions and one-off jobs around people's homes, you might reckon your work doesn't "count" towards a qualification. Plenty of tradies feel the same — like you need to have built whole houses or worked on big commercial sites to be taken seriously. The good news is that small jobs can absolutely count. What matters isn't the size of the job; it's whether your work shows the skills the qualification asks for.
A qualification like the Certificate III in Carpentry or the Certificate III in Painting & Decorating is broken up into units. Each unit describes a skill you need to be able to demonstrate — things like setting out, measuring, cutting, finishing, preparing surfaces, working safely, reading plans, and so on.
Nowhere in those units does it say the job has to be a huge one. Hanging a door, framing a small deck, patching and repainting a room, fitting out a bathroom — these are real tasks that show real skills. A pile of small jobs done well can cover the same ground as one big job. Sometimes it covers more, because you've had to handle a wider variety of situations.
Here's something a lot of small-job tradies don't realise: doing loads of little jobs often means you've touched more skills than someone stuck doing the same repetitive task on a big site for years.

The key is showing what you did and how you did it. Small jobs are usually easier to document than you'd think, because you were often the one running them start to finish.

You don't need a filing cabinet full of paperwork. We work with what you've got and help you fill the gaps sensibly. If there's a skill you've done plenty of but never snapped a photo of, that's a normal thing to sort out along the way.
We can't promise you'll walk away with a qualification — nobody credible can. Whether your evidence is enough comes down to it meeting the requirements of each unit, and that competency decision is made by the partner Registered Training Organisation (RTO), not by us.
