First things first — set-down and suspended slab work is carpentry. Setting out, reading plans, working to levels and tolerances, forming up edges, dealing with penetrations, stripping and making good — that's skilled work, and it lines up with a solid chunk of what the Certificate III in Carpentry is built around.

You're already working with:

• Plans, drawings and set-out
• Levels, falls and tolerances
• Measuring, marking and cutting timber and sheet
• Working safely on site around other trades
• Handling and using power tools and hand tools

None of that gets thrown away just because you've focused on formwork rather than framing or fit-off. It's real evidence of real skills.

Where the Gaps Usually Show Up

Being honest with you — a qualification covers a broad set of units, and pure formwork won't touch all of them. The Certificate III in Carpentry includes things like wall and roof framing, external cladding, and sometimes basic finishing work.
