Plenty of painters feel the same way. But narrow work doesn't mean shallow skills. In fact, wet area painting demands a solid handle on surface prep, moisture, ventilation, coatings and finishing that sits right at the heart of the trade. Bathroom and splashback painting isn't the "easy" end of the trade — it's one of the fussiest. You're dealing with moisture, condensation, mould-prone surfaces, tight spaces and the kind of finish that shows every flaw. To do it well you have to understand:
Those are real, assessable skills. A qualification is built from a set of units, and the everyday tasks you've been doing for years often map across to what those units are asking for.
The Certificate III in Painting & Decorating is made up of a range of units covering things like surface preparation, applying paint by brush, roller and spray, working safely, handling and storing materials, and finishing to a standard. Wet area work touches a good chunk of that — but not necessarily all of it.
That's the honest bit. If your whole working life has been bathrooms and splashbacks, there may be parts of the qualification you haven't had much cause to do, like large exterior surfaces, decorative finishes or certain spray applications. That doesn't shut the door on you. It just means we look closely at what you've covered and where you might need to show a bit more.

Whether you're assessed as competent depends on your evidence meeting the requirements of each unit — and that decision is made by the partner Registered Training Organisation (RTO), not by us. If there are gaps, we'll be straight with you about them.
