If you've spent years fitting out shops, offices and commercial spaces, you might reckon your work doesn't "count" for a carpentry qualification. Maybe you've been building partition walls, hanging doors, installing shopfronts, setting out counters and fixing off ceilings — but never framed a house from the ground up. Here's the honest answer: the work you've done on the tools still shows real carpentry skills, and there's a good chance a fair bit of it can go towards getting qualified. That's a lot of the skill and knowledge that sits inside a Certificate III in Carpentry. The qualification isn't only about new house frames — it covers a broad set of units, and commercial fit-out work touches plenty of them.
When it comes to getting your experience recognised, no one's grading you on whether you worked on homes or high-rise shopfronts. What matters is whether you can show you've done the work described in each unit — properly, and more than once.
So the real question isn't "did I do the right kind of jobs?" It's "can I prove what I've done?" That's the bit we help you sort out.
